A 60-year-old man at Uwheru community in Ughelli North Local Government
Area of Delta State, has committed suicide over his inability to feed
and provide for his immediate family.
The victim, Okporo Arigo, was said to have hung himself on a tree and
left a note, citing his inability to take care of his ailing wife and
children as the reason for his action.
Vanguard reports that, the lifeless body of the victim, whose younger
brother is a serving councillor at the Ughelli North legislative arm,
was discovered in the bush with the suicide note nearby. A member of the
community executive, who spoke on condition of anonymity yesterday,
said:
“He (Arigo) claimed to have embarked on the act to put a stop on his inability to take care of his immediate family after his younger brother, who is a serving councillor, abandoned him to his fate.”
