Meet The Girl With Sleeping Beauty Syndrome

  Hmmmmm na wa what kind of disease is this one, To sleep for 22hrs is no joke .

 

Beth Goodier  22, from Stockport, Cheshire, is one of more than 100 young people in Britain diagnosed with Kleine-Levin syndrome (KLS) - known as Sleeping Beauty syndrome. 

In the run-up to her 17th birthday in November five years ago, Beth fell asleep ,and didn't wake up properly for six months. 

For 22 hours a day, she kept sleeping, only waking in a dream-like trance to take a little food and drink and go to the toilet. Little is known about what triggers the sleep disorder and even less about how to cure it. At the moment, Beth  is two-and-a half months into another deep sleep episode.

 Nothing - not drugs, loud noises, pleading or cajoling - will wake her. 

Over the past five years, Beth's mother, Janine, calculates that her daughter has been asleep 75 per cent of the time.

An official of Diamond Bank Plc, Ademola Oshodi, told a Lagos State High Court on Monday that he managed the bank account of Justice Rita Ofili-Ajumogobia domiciled in the bank.

Mr. Oshodi told the court that he regularly visited Ofiili-Ajumogobia’s chamber on the premises of the Federal High Court on Oyinkan Abayomi Drive, Ikoyi, Lagos, to collect huge cash sums for onward deposit into the judge’s account.

The banker opened up that whenever the money was above the lawful threshold that could be deposited into the judge’s account, he split it into two, deposited a portion into Ofili-Ajumogobia’s account and the remaining portion into his own personal account.

Nigeria Police Kill Three, Foil Attack On Plane

Three suspected armed robbers were on Monday shot dead by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force during a shootout at the busy UTC Junction in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.

One of the hoodlums, who escaped being killed by a special team from Inspector General of Police, said they had planned to attack a plane belonging to a popular airline in the country.

It was also learnt that the suspects were forced to stop by the traffic light as they queued behind other vehicles waiting for their turn to get the green light to move.

One of the suspects, according to the eyewitness, alighted from the car and opened fire on some policemen at the junction.

Lagos Approves Death Penalty For Kidnappers If Victims Die In Their Captivity

The Lagos State House of Assembly yesterday okayed capital punishment as penalty for kidnappers, if their victims die in captivity.

This followed the adoption of a report presented by Mrs Adefunmilayo Tejuosho, Chairman House Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission.

Tejuosho presented the report of a Stakeholders meeting on a bill titled: “A Bill for a Law to Provide for the Prohibition of the Act of Kidnapping and for Other Connected Purposes”.

NAN reports that the bill was sponsored by Speaker Mudashiru Obasa.

Senate Approves Buhari’s Request To Amend 2016 Budget

The Senate has approved President Muhammadu Buhari’s request to amend the 2016 budget by re-assigning N180.8 billion to critical recurrent and capital items.

The Senate’s approval followed the presentation of the report of the Committee on Appropriations led by Danjuma Goje on Tuesday.

Nigerian Troops In Somalia Not Paid For 11 Months

Eleven months after they were deployed on peace enforcement duties in Somalia as Formed Police Unit (FPU) to assist the Somali police maintain law and order and provide cover for the country’s first democratic elections holding tomorrow, Nigerian troops have not been paid .According to The Nation's  Assistant Editor Seun Akioye, who was  with the troops in Somalia,some of the Nigerian officers who spoke to The Nation in confidence said the security situation in Mogadishu is dire and that the troops risk their lives going out on patrols daily.

“That is what we do every day. We only go out in our armoured vehicles called Mambas. We wear bullet proof vests all day. This is the most difficult battle in the world today,” an officer, who pleaded for anonymity, said.

Policeman Kills Driver Over N50 In Niger

A Police Sergeant  identified as Isah Mohammed at the weekend killed a bus driver over N50 at a checkpoint along Tegina-Lagos Road near Mashegu local government area of Niger state.

Eyewitnesses revealed that the police sergeant demanded that the driver give him N100 but the driver pleaded for N50 which he offered to the policeman.

According to the Nation, the policeman was said to have insisted on the balance of N50 which the deceased driver said he could not part with as he walked towards his vehicle.

Angered by driver’s refusal , the policeman reportedly cocked and fired at the driver, killing him instantly, while the conductor sustained a fracture in the leg from the shot which killed the driver and was hospitalized.

Lagos Launches 16-Day Fight Against Sexual, Gender Violence

 According to Vanguard the Lagos State’s Domestic and Sexual Violence Response Team, DSVRT, is partnering with Access Bank to commemorate 16 days of activism to end all forms of violence against women and children.

DSVRT Coordinator, Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi, in a statement yesterday, said the team, in partnership with the Financial Control and Strategy Group of Access Bank, would be embarking on series of events aimed at educating and equipping the public with necessary information to increase people’s awareness on sexual and gender based violence crimes as well as practical steps to rid the society of the menace.


As part of the enlightenment programs, she said there would be a workshop with the theme: “Safeguarding The Rights For A Child,” while a Symposium tagged “It’s On You And I To End Violence Against Women And Children,” would also take place.

9 Killed In Ohio University After A Gunman Unleash Terror

A suspect is dead and at least 9 injured about an hour after an active shooter situation was reported at Ohio State University. Just before 10am [local time], the university issued a warning telling students at the school's Columbus campus to shelter in place.

The first reports of gunshots came from Watts Hall, which is home to the school's Materials Science and Engineering program.

Niger Delta Militants Blow Up NPDC Pipeline in Delta State

The so called Akuma Strike Force Team of The Niger Delta Greenland Justice Mandate (NDGJM) may have resumed its bombing of oil facilities in Delta State with its claim that at about 0400hour Monday, November 28, 2016, it brought down the 42 inch delivery line operated by NPDC/ND WESTERN in Otu-Jeremi. 

According to a release signed by the militant group’s spokesperson, General Aldo Agbalaja, the latest bombing was to register their presence as far as the crisis in the Niger Delta region is concerned.

The militants said, “In the last few weeks we have been silent and observing. The period of silence was definitely not of inactivity; as a matter of fact, it was rather a strategy session, the fruits of which shall start showing up in the coming days. 

Fred Agbaje Died In LUTH Not LONDON- Chambers

The Fred Agbaje’s Chambers on Sunday released a statement to officially announce the death of its principal partner, Mr. Fred Agbaje.

The brief statement jointly signed by Prince Kennedy Osunwa and Adeniyi Pokanu stated that  Agbaje died at about 8am on Saturday, November 26, 2016 at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi-Araba, Lagos, as opposed to earlier media reports that the legal icon died in a London hospital.

The chamber described its late boss as “a resolute defender of the oppressed, a law lord, legal authority of our time, a legal colossus and a rare gem,” whose death had left a yearning gap to be filled by in the nation’s jurisprudence.


The statement said that a condolence registered had been opened at the Fred Agbaje’s Chambers at No. 51, Popoola Street, Pedro, Shomolu, Lagos, adding that the Agbaje’s family would soon announce the deceased’s burial arrangement.

Nursery Worker Caught On CCTV Slapping Baby So Hard (Photos)

A nursery worker was caught on CCTV slapping and kicking a baby so hard the tot suffered a fractured skull and internal bleeding.

Afsana Shaikh was filmed beating nine-month-old Ritisha Sinha during nap time at the day care centre in western India.

The shocking attack took place on the infant's first day at the nursery, in the city of Kharghar, in Maharashtra State.

Ritisha's mother, Ruchita, noticed a bruise on the little girl's face when she collected her.


Dad Rajat said: "Ritisha was fast asleep but there was a bruise under her eye. When my wife asked about it, the centre owner said she had hit herself while playing.

Abducted Ex- Minister, Bagudu Hirse Regains Freedom

Mr Bagudu Hirse, former Minister of State (Foreign Affairs), who was abducted by gunmen in Kaduna on Sunday, Nov. 20, has regained his freedom, his brother, Mr John Hirse, has confirmed.

“Bagudu was released in the early hours of Saturday,” John, retired permanent secretary in the federal civil service and currently District Head of Mangu, in Plateau, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), in Jos on Saturday.

He said that the former minister  was“hale and hearty”, and thanked Nigerians for the prayers and words of encouragement “during the tỳing period”

Obasanjo Is Grandfather Of Corruption -Reps

For describing the National Assembly as being peopled by a gang of unarmed robbers, the House of Representatives has lashed out at ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo, calling him the grandfather of corruption.

The Reps described Obasanjo as the most corrupt Nigerian that ever held a public office, adding that he, however, saw himself as the only clean human being.

Specifically, the House called Obasanjo the “grandfather of corruption” in Nigeria.

It added that a reason Obasanjo would never like the members of the National Assembly was the fact that they foiled his third term ambition in 2007 after taking his money and displaying it publicly to put him to shame.


The House accused Obasanjo of churning out outright lies and mischievous innuendos against the National Assembly.

Masked Intruder Kills Female Care Worker, Takes 70 Monks Hostage At A French Retirement Home

Anti-terrorist police are searching for a masked gunman after female a care worker was murdered at a home and 70 monks were taken hostage at a retirement home in the south of France.

The bloodbath unfolded at the Green Oaks care home in the village of Montferrier-sur-Lez, north of Montpellier, soon after 9.30pm last night.

Shots were heard as the unidentified intruder attacked member of staff and members of an elderly religious community belonging to the Society of African Missions.

Many killed As JTF Raids Militants’ Camp In Delta(Graphic)

Many militants were reported killed when the Joint Task Force (JTF) code-named ”Operation Delta Safe” raided a suspected militants’ camp in Okosugbene along the Burutu/Warri in Burutu Local Government Area of Delta on Thursday.

A source told newsmen in Warri that the military personnel stormed the camp with two Fighter Jets and about eight Gunboats at about 6 a.m.

According to PM News, the camp was said to be an abandoned hideout used by the former militant group, Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) and now occupied by sea pirates.

Seun Egbegbe Remanded In Kirikiri

 According to Vanguard Lagos State Magistrate’s Court sitting in Ikeja, yesterday, remanded in Kirikiri Prison, Seun Egbegbe, former boyfriend to actress and social media celebrity, Toyin Aimakhu, for alleged theft of 10 pieces of iPhones.

Seun was arraigned before Magistrate Y. O. Aje-Afunwa, on one count charge of theft slammed against him by the police. Seun, who pleaded not guilty when the charge was read to him, was alleged to have committed the offence at the Computer Village, Ikeja, where he requested for the phones.


The police prosecution told the court that the incident occurred while the sales girl was trying to calculate the items Seun requested for, but that he allegedly ran out of the shop with the phones and tried to board a waiting vehicle.

Madonna Stands By Son Rocco Following Arrest - "I Love My Son Very Much"

Madonna has released a statement following her son's arrest for possession of cannabis. The 16-year-old was hanging out with a friend in Notting Hill, London, when locals called the police, after allegedly noticing some "suspicious" behaviour.

Rocco, who Madonna has previously described as a "wild child", was stopped by officers who searched his rucksack and found the class B drug.

After the news made headlines, the 55-year-old singer has made it clear she's standing by Rocco, saying: “I love my son very much.

She added in a statement to ABC News: “I will do whatever I can to give him the support that he needs, and I ask that you respect our privacy at this time.”

9,579 Persons Test Positive To HIV In Lagos

The Lagos State Aids Control Agency has said that 9, 579 persons tested positive to HIV between the months of January and June.

LSACA’s Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Oluseyi Temowo, also stated that about 616, 318 persons in the state were counselled and tested within the same period.

He said, “These statistics simply mean that there are many more people who are not aware that they have the virus."

Temowo disclosed this at a briefing being part of the activities put in place to mark the 2016 World AIDS Day coming up on December 1.

Lagos State Cancels Monthly Environmental Sanitation

The Lagos State Government has cancelled the monthly environmental sanitation exercise held every last Saturday of the month.

the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Steve Ayorinde, who announced this in a statement said, “It is no longer appropriate to restrict movement of people for three hours in a mega city like Lagos at a time they should be pursuing commercial and entrepreneurial activities.

“In the last two decades, Lagos has grown exponentially into a mega city with the attendant huge environmental problems associated with managing a population of over twenty million people.

“But sadly, the environmental laws, policies and procedures being practiced in the State have not been able to match the phenomenal growth and the dream of a 24-hour economy, hence the need for the reform.”

102 Killed, 215 Injured, 50,000 Houses Burnt In Kaduna – CAN

The Christian Association of Nigeria on Wednesday said that over 102 villagers in Godogodo and Gidan Waya communities in Jema’a Local Government Area of Kaduna State had been killed by Fulani herdsmen in the last six months.

The organisation added that 50,000 houses were burnt in 25 Christian communities, while  215 people were injured in Kaduna State within six months by the herdsmen.

CAN also accused President Muhammadu Buhari and the Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, of not doing enough to curtail the massacre.

Speaking on Wednesday in Abuja while receiving the representatives of the 25 villages displaced by the crisis rocking Southern Kaduna, CAN President, Dr. Samson Ayokunle, said the killings amounted to ethnic and religious cleansing.
