Various National Youth Service Corps, NYSC camps across the country were lighted up at the weekend by Fayrouz, the premium soft drink from the stables of Nigerian Breweries Plc as the non-alcoholic drink showered fabulous prizes on corps members at their variety night.
At the Lagos NYSC camp, Iyana-Ipaja, Miss Ola Warikoru, a graduate of Finance and Investment Banking from University of Reading, UK, emerged winner of the keenly contested Miss NYSC beauty competition organised by Fayrouz. She went home with a HP Laptop while both the first and second runners- up, Okafor Ezinne and Awobote Terma Oluwabusayomi, went home with a giant Samsung Refrigerator and a DVD player respectively.
Okafor and Oluwabusayomi graduated from Madonna University, Okija and North American University, Cotonou, respectively.
The Mr. Macho contest was won by Ebierekiye Donkemezuo who went home with a giant LCD Flat Screen TV. His first and second runners-up also won a giant Generator and a Fan, respectively.
Fayrouz, a refreshingly different non-alcoholic drink with a white foam head, comes in two variants Pineapples and Pear flavours. The brand has continued to enjoy brand loyalty from consumers because of its unique natural taste and attractive packaging.
Mr Nigeria 2010, Kenneth Okafor, who was one of the judges at the beauty contest and Mr Macho competition, was full of admiration for the contestants for their courage in putting themselves forward to take part in the contest. Mr Nigeria 2010 noted that Nigerian youth should be encouraged by corporate organisations to continuously keep them constructively engaged.
According to him, the youth of Nigeria would have less time to contemplate about engaging in crimes and other nefarious activities if both government and corporate organisations could strategize such activities that would make them useful to themselves and the nation at large.
He however, commended the Nigerian Breweries Plc for its relentless efforts in making Nigeria a crime-free society through constructive engagement of the youth, stressing that ‘’we would have a better Nigeria if other corporate bodies could join Nigerian Breweries in creating conducive atmosphere for the young elements in the society to unwind, relax and engage in constructive activates.
The Fayrouz corner at the Camp remained a beehive of activities during the period of the camping exercise as drinks and branded gift items were given out to visitors to the pavilion. One of the corps members and winner of the Miss NYSC beauty competition, Miss Ola Warikoru, commended Fayrouz “for putting up a good show at the camp”. She noted that through its activities, Fayrouz has added colours to the three-week orientation camp, making it more fun-filled.
The new beauty queen who stormed the Fayrouz corner with a large number of her platoon members to celebrate her victory, described Fayrouz as ‘’Champagne of soft drinks; that, I can attest to as a regular consumer of Fayrouz and other soft drinks in the market’’. The new Miss NYSC who studied Finance and Investment Banking at University of Reading, UK, however, urged Nigerian Breweries Plc not to relent in its efforts to make better Nigerians of the leaders of tomorrow undergoing the one year mandatory national service to their motherland through constructive activities that help build the mind, body and soul.
Speaking in the same vein, winner of Mr Macho contest, Ebierekiye Donkemezuo who said he doesn’t drink alcohol, noted that Fayrouz has provided a better alternative for him as the non-alcoholic soft drink tastes so much like Champagne. “Without any fear or favour, Fayrouz is better than any other soft drinks we have around now; Fayrouz tastes like wine”, he posited.
The first runner-up in the Mr Macho contest, Nnamdi Darlinton Odoputa, who won a giant Generator, commended Fayrouz for its ingenuity in identifying with the youth and including them in the consumer affinity activities. ‘’A close observer would discover that Fayrouz is always found wherever you find the youth of this country engaged in one thing or the other that is positive’’, he said, adding that Nigerian Breweries Plc should be commended for bringing Fayrouz to the market and identifying with the Nigerian youth.
He said other corporate organisations should emulate Nigerian Breweries Plc with a view to creating fun and making the consumer happy.
The first runner-up in the Miss NYSC beauty contest, Okafor Ezinne said “personally, I like the brand. she added that “as a Christian, I don’t take alcohol but each time I drink Fayrouz the golden sparkling liquid and the sweet smelling flavours of Pineapples and Pear give a blend of sensation of foaming drink and beverage devoid of any alcoholic content; It’s like taking Champagne and that’s the beauty of Fayrouz.”
Senior Brand Manager, Fayrouz and Climax, Nigerian Breweries Plc, Mrs Nnenna Hemeson, expressed satisfaction in the popularity and acceptance of Fayrouz by the consumers across the society. She said the brand has remained the premium soft drink with a unique taste.
She however, assured that Fayrouz would continue to identify with the Nigerian youths across the country. One major way to maintain a crime-free society, according to Hemeson, ‘’is by engaging the youth in positive re-creational activities as we presently witness at the Fayrouz corner at the NYSC camps across the country’’.
She disclosed that Nigerian Breweries, through Fayrouz, would continue to partner with the NYSC authorities at the various camps to make the one-in-a life time experience a wonderful one for the corps members through sponsorship of social activities like the ‘Camp Variety Night’ amongst others.
She explained that ‘’Fayrouz is produced, using the finest barley in our propriety brewing process’’. She added that the ingredients in Fayrouz make it a great choice for people looking for a sparkling soft drink with no artificial flavours or additives.
According to her, the carefully balanced flavour and gentle carbonation combine to create a refreshing, full-flavoured, full-bodied soft drink for young adults.
