A Nigerian man, Dr. Benjamin Ola. Akande, has been
named the president of Westminster College in Fulton,
Missouri to replace the current
president, Dr. George B. Forsythe who has been president since 2008.
The announcement was made in a press release
by chairman of the Westminster Board of Trustees, Wallace L. Head:
“We’ve achieved our year-long goal of finding
the most qualified person to lead Westminster
and to continue executing our strategic plan."
Dr. Akande, Dean of the University's Business
and Technology School,
will become the 21st president of Westminster
College in Fulton and the first African-American
president in the college’s 164 year history.
The professor of economics also leads
Webster’s global Office of Corporate Partnerships.
Originally from Nigeria,
Akande said he also hopes to continue Westminster’s
strong focus on outreach to international students.
“I came here 34-35 years ago as an
international student and look at me, I'm president of Westminster College,”
Akande said.
