Mrs Linda Barau, the Plateau State Commissioner for
Agriculture, has confirmed the outbreak of the bird flu otherwise known as the
avian influenza in the state. The commissioner said that four farms have
already been affected, with thousands of birds already isolated.
She told newsmen that efforts are on to ensure that the
disease does not spread to other farms in the state. She also noted that farmers
have been advised to maintain a higher sense of bio security to avoid the
spread of the disease.
The commissioner said that she had directed the director veterinary services to liaise with farmers, while advising them not to panic as the situation was under control.
