The Anambra State government is to spend N25 million in the de-worming exercise of children between one and fifteen years.
The week-long exercise would take place in all the 21 local government areas of the state. The implementing partners, including the United Nations Development Programme, UNDP, and the state Ministry of Economic Planning, had already conducted the needs assessment survey of poverty distribution and access to social services in the 21 local government areas during which they identified the six most underserved LGAs in Anambra State, where the exercise would begin. Wife of the state governor, Mrs. Ebelechukwu Obiano, at the launch of the programme at Isu-Aniocha in Awka North local government area, said the exercise was very important as it would help the children to grow healthy and strong. Mrs. Obiano advised mothers to ensure that their children’s food included nutrients like vegetables, which help to avoid worm infestation that might lead to stunted growth.
