Confab Gives Conditions on Removal of Fuel Subsidy

 

As we all know the Confab had a heated debate at the plenary on Tuesday,3rd June 2014, the controversy surrounding the recommendation by the Public Finance and Revenue Committee of the on-going National Conference demanding complete removal of subsidy on petroleum product was resolved.The Committee's recommendation had met a brick wall on Monday 2nd June 2014, when it was raised on the floor of the Conference with both those who were for and those against stating their positions with vehemence.However, through a motion by Dan Nwanyanwu and 24 others on Tuesday, it was agreed that removal of subsidy on petroleum products within the next three years should be preceded by building of new refineries and repair of existing ones to full capacity.

Mr Godwin Emefiele has resumed office as the new Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN)  and would on Thursday unveil the new strategies to be adopted by the bank under his leadership.A statement, signed by Mr Isaac Okoroafor for the CBN Director, Corporate Communications, and made available to newsmen in Abuja on Tuesday said that the new governor officially assumed office on Tuesday. Emefiele is the 10th indigenous CBN governor, the statement said.It said that Emefiele arrived at the apex bank premises in Abuja at 7.30a.m. on Tuesday and was welcomed by the four deputy governors and staff, led by Dr Sarah Alade, whose tenure as Acting CBN Governor ended on Monday.

We see all over the world, Nigerians are gaining support for the release of Chibok Girls,In an amazing effort to raise the awareness about the school girls kidnapped in the Chibok area of Borno state, American singer and actor  Tyrese, hosted a music concert.

The event tagged For Our Girls in Nigeria, was held in Los Angeles on Friday 30th May 2014. Tyrese says he was inspired by First Lady Michelle Obama “to do something”.

All proceeds from the event is going to UNICEF who will send the money directly to the families of the girls.Vin Diesel, Terrence Jenkins and Ludacris, were some of celebrities at the event. While speaking at the show, Stevie Wonder called Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau “a weak piece of…”  (lol)

Confab Delegates in Heated Debate Over Fuel Subsidy

 

Delegates at the on-going National Conference yesterday debated the desirability and otherwise of the much-touted Fuel Subsidy as they spoke either in support or against the complete removal of the subsidy as recommended by the Standing Committee on Public Finance and Revenue.

The debate on the committee's report kicked off after delegates had resumed for the week following the death of the wife of the conference chairman, Justice Idris Kutigi, on Wednesday last week.

A total number of 147 delegates indicated interest to comment on the report and as at close of session yesterday evening only about 50 had spoken prompting adjournment and continuation of the debate today.

LUTH resident doctors embark on indefinite strike

 

The Association of Resident Doctors, ARD, Lagos University Teaching Hospital, LUTH, has embarked on an indefinite strike action. This followed the expiration of the 21- day ultimatum given to LUTH management to address its demand. The association, in a statement by its President, Dr. Omojowolo Olubunmi, had unanimously agreed to resume their suspended industrial action, Meanwhile this action will slow down activities in the hospital as only Specialist Doctors are available to attend to Patients.

Angelou died last Wednesday ,May 28, at her home in Winston-Salem, N.C. and Oprah has been remembering her ever since. “I’ve been blessed to have Maya Angelou as my mentor, mother/sister, and friend since my 20’s,” Winfrey wrote on her Facebook post the day Angelou died. “She was there for me always, guiding me through some of the most important years of my life. Son of Football Legend Pele sentenced to 33 years in prison
