Mr Godwin Emefiele has resumed office as the new Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and would on Thursday unveil the new strategies to be adopted by the bank under his leadership.A statement, signed by Mr Isaac Okoroafor for the CBN Director, Corporate Communications, and made available to newsmen in Abuja on Tuesday said that the new governor officially assumed office on Tuesday. Emefiele is the 10th indigenous CBN governor, the statement said.It said that Emefiele arrived at the apex bank premises in Abuja at 7.30a.m. on Tuesday and was welcomed by the four deputy governors and staff, led by Dr Sarah Alade, whose tenure as Acting CBN Governor ended on Monday.
“The new CBN governor is expected to have a maiden World Press Conference on
Thursday, June 5, where he will unveil his agenda for the Central Bank of
Nigeria and the people of Nigeria,’’ it said.The statement added that the
governor at the formal handing over ceremony commended Alade and other deputy
governors as well as members of the media for gracing his formal assumption of
office.The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that Emeifele was appointed to
replace the former CBN Governor, Malam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, who was suspended
from office by President Goodluck Jonathan in February.
Emeifele is the immediate past Group Managing Director of Zenith Bank
Nigeria Plc with over 20 years of banking management experience.He is a 1984
graduate of Banking and Finance from University of Nigeria, Nsukka and has an
MBA Degree in Finance in 1986 from the same University.He is also an alumnus of
Executive Education from Stanford University, California; Harvard University
(2004) and Wharton Graduate School of Business (2005). (NAN)
