According to a new post by Guardian Members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) in Borno State on Tuesday killed eight Boko Haram terror suspects when vigilante youths clashed with gunmen in a village near Chibok while torching several houses and carting away food items and livestock.
Speaking Tuesday in a telephone chat in Maiduguri, Chairman of CJTF, Adamsi Tar said that vigilante youths took strategic positions at Kwarangilam village with their Dane guns, before ambushing the advancing insurgents.Kwarangilam is a farming community; and 141 kilometres south of Maiduguri, the state capital.“Our brave patriots engaged these armed invaders in a deadly shootout around 3am today (Tuesday),” said Tar.
On how youths killed the suspects, he said: “The attackers were taken unawares in what I can call ‘counter ambush’ because our men did not confront them directly. After hiding in strategic places, our men used local guns and picked them (insurgents) one by one while the terrorists kept shooting indiscriminately.”He however, said the insurgents had burnt some houses in the village, adding that: “the villagers have lost most of their personal effects.''Our members have also lost most of their belongings in the dawn clash, especially their uniforms, because at night we don’t wear uniform.”
He said that his members have what it takes to confront Boko Haram insurgents; but require modern fighting equipment.“Our guns can only shoot once at a time and you must reload it again and again which is tedious and risky. We have said it time and again that we need better weapons; we need vehicles and other accessories that would make our jobs better; if we can get better arms, who is Boko Haram that would hold us to ransom all this while,” asked Tar.Spokesman of CJTF, Mohammed Gava also said one of the suspects was also arrested by the vigilantes and handed over to security operatives. He said the attackers retreated when they realized that it will not be an easy ride for them.
