EX-NNPC Boss Withdraws N1BN Suit Against EFCC, AGF

A former Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Mr. Andrew Yakubu, on Tuesday terminated his fundamental human rights enforcement suit, in which he sought N1bn as compensation for his alleged unlawful detention by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

Yakubu had filed the suit before Justice Ahmed Mohammed of the Federal High Court in Abuja following his arrest on February 8, 2017 and his continued detention by the EFCC with respect to the sums of $9,772,800 and £74,000 recovered from his house in Kaduna on February 3.

Fire Guts INEC's National Headquarters

There was a fire outbreak at the National Headquarters of the Indepedent National Electoral Commission in Abuja on Monday.

An official of the commission who witnessed the fire incident told a Punch correspondent that the fire started from a spark from the air conditioner in the office of the Personal Assistant to the Chairman.

The fire which started around 12:10pm was said to have burnt the curtain in the office of the PA to the Chairman but was put out before it could do a severe damage.

The INEC staff said that the men of the Fire Service Unit of the commission acted swiftly to put out the fire within five minutes.

Okafors Law: Court Issues Interim Order, Suspending Release/Launch Of Movie

Justice Ibrahim Buba of a Federal High Court in Lagos has issued an Anton Piller order, directing the seizure of a film titled “Okafor’s Law” directed by Nollywood Producer, Omoni Oboli.

The court also issued an interim order, suspending the release and launch of the film, in any movie theatre or cinema house on March 31, pending the determination of a motion on notice before the court.

The judge ordered the seizure of all copies, materials, projections or infringing materials, relating to the subject matter.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the orders followed an ex parte application filed by a company, Rancoteur Productions Ltd, on behalf of a Canada based script writer, Jude Idada. see more after the cut

What manner of wickedness is this! Police in Ogun State has arrested a murder suspect, Adeoye Ikugbayigbe, for allegedly killing a 72yrs old woman, Mrs. Funmilayo Shada, over a land.

The 23-year-old was alleged to have also cut off Funmilayo’s head with a cutlass.

Ikugbayigbe was caught by the victim’s son, Ekundayo, who was on the way to seeing his mother who was supposed to be at her farm.

South African Anti-Apartheid Icon Ahmed Kathrada Dies At 87

Leading South African anti-apartheid activist Ahmed Kathrada, one of Nelson Mandela’s closest colleagues in the struggle against white rule, died early Tuesday aged 87, his eponymous charity foundation said.

Kathrada was among those tried and jailed alongside Mandela in the Rivonia trial in 1964, which drew worldwide attention and highlighted the brutal legal system under the apartheid regime.

He died in a hospital in Johannesburg after a short illness following brain surgery.

President Buhari Sacks 5 Directors Over Illegal Recruitment

Following reports of illegal recruitment exercise into federal civil service, the federal government led by President Muhammadu Buhari has given nod to the dismissal of five directors at the Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD).

The five directors were sacked with immediate effect.

All five of them were reportedly appointed during the administration of former President, Goodluck Jonathan in contravention to one of the public service rules that has to do with their age as at the time of recruitment.

They were found guilty of employment irregularities after investigation.

Six People Killed In Plane Crash

Six people have reportedly died following a plane crash in eastern Zimbabwe near the border with Mozambique.

The Herald newspaper said the Mozambican-registered eight-seater plane crashed into the Vumba mountains near the Mozambican boarder, with witnesses blaming bad weather.

Four of the people on board were directors of a Mozambican company that has operations in Zimbabwe, while the two crew members were a father and son.

The Herald said an aid force helicopter had airlifted the bodies to a nearby hospital.

A final year student of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomosho, Oyo State, Adesoji Adediran, has committed suicide.

The 500-level student of Urban and Regional Planning Department hanged himself in the school’s hostel on Saturday.

It was gathered that his roommates, who had been away for a night study, returned in the morning to find his corpse dangling from the ceiling.

The school management was said to have been alerted, which informed policemen from the Owode division, who removed the remains.

The corpse was said to have been deposited in a mortuary for autopsy.

Son of the late military Head of State, Gen. Sani Abacha, Mohammed, had begun a legal battle to reclaim the $1.3 billion Oil Prospecting Licence (OPL) 245, which was allocated to Malabu Oil Gas Limited. Mohammed Abacha is a Director and the largest shareholder of Malabu Oil Gas Ltd.

The two other major shareholders are Amafagha Kweku and Hindu Hassan.

There have been a couple of suits before different courts in recent time over the oil bloc. 

While the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had approached the court seeking a forfeiture order of the said licence from Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company Limited, and Nigerian Agip Exploration Company Limited, the Federal Government had, in another suit, slammed a six-count corruption charge on a former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mohammed Adoke (SAN); former Minister of Petroleum, Chief Dan Etete and nine others for their involvement in the sales of the oil bloc to Shell and Agip.

Customs Seized Senator Saraki’s Bulletproof Range Rover Over Fake Documents(Photo)

SaharaReporters has learned that the Nigerian Senate’s current war against the leadership of the Nigerian Customs Service has its roots in the fact that Customs officials seized a bulletproof Range Rover Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) owned by Senate President Bukola Saraki.

Investigators discovered that Nigerian Customs officers in Lagos had on January 11, 2017, intercepted and impounded a Range Rover SUV which carried documents that claimed its chassis number was “SALGV3TF3EA190243.”


Customs sources sais that the value of the car was N298 million, which meant that customs duty of N74 million should have been paid on the car.

Former Governor Ngilari Jailed For Corruption

A High Court in Yola, Adamawa state has convicted and jailed former Governor Bala James Ngilari for failing to adhere to the procurement laws of the state.

In a 75-minute long ruling, Justice Nathan Musa found the former governor guilty of four charges, and discharged him on one, which bordered on conspiracy.

The judge discharged and acquitted former Secretary to the State Government, and Commissioner of Finance, who were second and third defendants in the case.
