Nigeria To Pull Out Of 90 World Organisations

The Federal Government has decided to pull Nigeria out of 90 world organisations.

As part of plans for the country’s exit from the organisations, the Federal Executive Council has mandated a committee to come up with and present recommendations to it for ratification.

The decision is as a result of the financial implications of the country’s membership of the organisations.

Minister of Finance Kemi Adeosun said this while briefing State House correspondents after the FEC meeting.

Cameroon Illegally Deports 100,000 Nigerians

Cameroon has broken international law by forcibly deporting at least 100,000 Nigerians who had fled there to escape Islamist Boko Haram militants, Human Rights Watch (HRW) said on Wednesday.

Cameroon’s minister of communications declined to comment on the report, which said the army had been detaining the refugees and torturing some of them, before the authorities pushed them back into neighboring northeast Nigeria.

Human Rights Watch said the expulsions reported since 2015 were one of the largest illegal forced repatriations it had seen in recent years, and were in “flagrant breach” of global and Cameroonian law.

Playboy Magazine Founder, Hugh Hefner Is DEAD

Hugh Hefner, American founder of the international adult magazine Playboy, has died at the age of 91. Playboy Enterprises Inc said he passed away peacefully at home in Los Angeles, from natural causes.

Hefner began publishing Playboy in his kitchen in 1953. It became the largest-selling men's magazine in the world, shifting seven million copies a month at its peak.

Cooper Hefner, his son, said he would be "greatly missed by many".

He paid tribute to his father's "exceptional and impactful life as a media and cultural pioneer," and called him an advocate for free speech, civil rights and sexual freedom.

Any Woman Who Voted For Trump, Voted Against Her Own Voice- Michelle Obama

Former US First Lady Michelle Obama has lashed out at female voters who backed President Donald Trump. "Any woman who voted against Hillary Clinton voted against their own voice," she said.

Mrs Obama, who has stayed largely out of the political fray since leaving the White House, made the remark at a Boston conference.

She reflected on the 2016 election as an example of staying true to her "authentic self".

"Quite frankly, we saw this in this election. As far as I'm concerned, any woman who voted against Hillary Clinton voted against their own voice," Mrs Obama said on Wednesday during a question-and-answer session at Inbound, a marketing and sales conference in Boston. Who is with her?

Federal Government Declares Monday Public Holiday

The Federal Government has declared Monday, October 2, 2017 as a public holiday in commemoration of Nigeria’s 57th independence anniversary.

The Minister of Interior, Lt. Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazau (rtd), made the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government and congratulated Nigerians on the anniversary and urged them to sustain the collective efforts towards maintaining and strengthening the unity of the country.

Guardian Torture Child With Hot Iron

A guardian, Mr. ThankGod Madubuchi, and his wife, Juliet, have been arrested by policemen from the Ilupeju division, for allegedly torturing a 10-year-old girl, Chinansa, with a hot iron.

Punch Metro learnt that Chinansa was ThankGod’s niece and she had been living with his family at their house on Anjorin Street, Mushin, Lagos State, for some time.

ThankGod and his wife were alleged to have always assaulted the victim over minor offences, as appeals from neighbours fell on deaf ears.

However, matter came to a head on Tuesday, September 5, when the couple used a hot iron to torture the victim.

Hurricane Max Now In Southern Mexico

Hurricane Max slammed into Mexico's southern Pacific coast Thursday, dumping rain on an area east of the resort city of Acapulco before rapidly weakening into a tropical storm as it moved inland into Guerrero state.

The coastline where Max made landfall is sparsely populated and dotted with fishing villages.

Guerrero Gov. Hector Astudillo warned that the rains would continue all night. Near Acapulco, the government worked frantically to widen a channel to the sea to prevent a coastal lagoon from flooding.

Gastroenteritis Outbreak: 18 People Die, 198 Hospitalised In Kebbi

An outbreak of gastroenteritis has killed 18 people at Dole-Kaina in Dandi Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the 18 people were among the 216 victims that were admitted at the border hospital in Kamba area of Dandi local government area.

The Deputy Nursing Officer in the area, Mr Lawal Saidu, told the newsmen that the victims were stooling and vomiting excessively when they were brought to the hospital, but they died while on treatment.

London Attack: London Mayor, PM Speak

Sadiq Khan has condemned "hideous" terrorism after today's incident on a London Tube, adding: "We will never be defeated."

The London mayor issued his first statement after an incident injured at least 20 people on a packed rush hour train in Parsons Green, west London.

Theresa May also speaks. The Prime Minister said in a statement: "My thoughts are with those injured at Parsons Green and the emergency services who, once again, are responding swiftly and bravely to a suspected terrorist incident."

Speaking further on his, Mr Khan said: "Our city utterly condemns the hideous individuals who attempt to use terror to harm us and destroy our way of life.
