Nigeria’s
health minister Onyebuchi Chukwu has revealed that an experimental drug for the
treatment of Ebola Viral Disease has been developed by a Nigerian in diaspora
and is expected to arrive in the country today.
The vaccine, identified as “Nanosilver”, can now be used as a result of the
approval by the World Health Organisation (WHO) that experimental treatments
are ethical in the case of the Ebola pandemic.
The Nigerian federal government authorised the use of trial drugs for the
affliction on Wednesday. The United States
had sent ZMapp, another experimental drug, to Liberia
on Wednesday, while Canada
has decided to donate 1,000 vaccines to the affected countries.
Meanwhile, the list of persons infected with the virus has increased to eleven as one of the doctors that treated Sawyer has reportedly tested positive for the virus.
