The Ogun
State Police command are yet to unravel the circumstances surrounding the
mysterious death of one Aliu Adeoye, his junior wife and her three children in
their home in Abeokuta, the state capital, about two weeks ago.
Before the unfortunate incident, Adeoye, who is a surveyor, lived with his
two wives and their six children in a bungalow at the Sabo area of Abeokuta.
It was gathered by Daily Sun that on the day of the incident, Adeoye, his
junior wife and their three children slept together in the same room while the
senior wife and her three children slept in another room. The following
morning, Adeoye and his family who slept in the same room were found dead.
Also, a tenant who lived in the house with the family, Egbebi Abiose, was
also affected by whatever caused the death of the other five people though he
survived and had to be hospitalized at an undisclosed private hospital in the
town.
Meanwhile, nothing happened to the senior wife and her children, which
caused commotion in the community as irate youths attempted to lynch her based
on allegations that she was responsible for the death of her husband, co-wife
and her three children.
But for the prompt intervention of the police, who took her into protective
custody, the suspect could have been lynched by the angry mob.
Speaking on the matter, the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer,
Muyiwa Adejobi, said after conducting preliminary investigation, they allowed
the corpses deposited at the mortuary to be released for burial.
He explained that the police wanted to conduct autopsies on the deceased but
the doctors’ strike prevented them from doing so and the family of the
deceased, were insisting on the release of the corpses for burial, saying they
were not interested in establishing a case with the senior wife or any other
person.
“The family was later asked to make a formal request after which we had
to release the corpses to them for burial since they said they were not
interested in any case,” he said.
The senior wife was however left in protective custody by the police until
the threats to her life no longer existed.
Commenting on the incident, the late Adeoye’s younger sister, Mrs. Akerele,
said she was yet to come to terms with the reality of her brother’s death,
adding that she suspects foul play.
She said: “I may not know who and why my brother was killed along with
his wife and three children, but I know that his death and those of others were
not natural.”
