So Sad : 80 Die, 300 Wounded In Car Bomb Blast Near Embassies In Kabul

At least eighty people have been killed and 300 injured in a powerful car bomb explosion in the Afghan capital of Kabul.

Police said the blast, which was believed to have been triggered by a suicide bomber, was in an area close to the German embassy.

The explosion also shattered windows and blew doors off their hinges in houses hundreds of metres away.

Huge clouds of black smoke were seen spiralling over the area near the presidential palace and foreign embassies.

Kabul resident Fatima Faizi told Al Jazeera."The explosion was so loud that it shattered all my windows.

"(I have not heard) something this big before." This is so sad.

Ariana Grande's tribute concert to the victims of the Manchester attack has been confirmed for Sunday 4 June.The 23-year-old singer will headline the star-studded One Love fundraiser that is set to see a series of other performers, including Miley Cyrus and Katy Perry, take to the stage.

It will be held at the Emirates Old Trafford cricket ground and all proceeds from the show will go to the 'We Love Manchester Emergency Fund'.

It will also feature other world superstars such as, Justin Bieber, Coldplay, Pharrell Williams, Usher, Take That and former One Direction star Niall Horan will all perform. God bless them all

Gov. Okorocha Sacks All Commissioners

Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State has sacked the state executive council and all 27 local government transition committees. The sack is with immediate effect.

A statement by his principal secretary, Pascal Obi, directed all former members of the executive to hand over to permanent secretaries or the most senior director in their ministries.

Obi quoted the governor as appreciating the invaluable contributions of the affected appointees to the success recorded by his “rescue mission” administration.

According to him, the secretary to the government, the chief of staff, chairmen and members of statutory commissions such as ISEC, Civil Service Commission, local government service commission were not affected.

“Also not affected in the cabinet shake-up are the state universal basic education board, the judicial service commission, and the house of assembly service commission,” the statement read.

“The governor also dissolved the 27 transition committees (TC) of the 27 local government areas in the state.

“The transition committee (TC) chairmen are advised to hand over to the directors of administration and general services of their respective council areas."

The governor did not state any reason for the action.

Nigeria Plays Togo Tomorrow In International Friendly

Manchester City wonder kid Kelechi Iheanacho has re-joined the Super Eagles at their get-together in the French capital, ahead of tomorrow’s international friendly against Togo.

NFF already announced nineteen players are in camp, including Iheanacho, for the friendly against the Sparrow Hawks at the Stade Municipal Saint-Leu-la-Forêt in Paris.

The Super Eagles have not lost to Togo since they were defeated 5-2 in the semifinal of the CEDEAO Cup on December 16, 1983. Sweetpikin says best of luck!

Manchester Mosques Refuse To Bury Suicide Bomber's Body

Councils and funeral directors have refused to deal with Salman Abedi's body as it emerged his corpse is currently being kept at a morgue outside Manchester.

Sources have said authorities will do 'everything in their power' to stop him being buried, cremated or laid to rest in the city.

The move comes just weeks after councils across the UK refused to deal with the remains of the Moors Murderer Ian Brady, who had wanted his ashes to be scattered in his home city of Glasgow.

Former governor of Cross River State, Donald Duke, on Tuesday said he would still take a shot at the presidency if the opportunity presented itself.

Duke spoke at a programme “The Nigerian Symposium for Emerging Leaders” held in Lagos.

He said though he once aspired to the position but did not emerge candidate of the PDP, he would still contest for the highest office in the country at the appropriate time.

Duke explained that it was because of his preference for the presidential seat that he did not vie for any federal legislative seat after serving out his terms as governor.

Cornelius and Marsh were chatting in a blue Volkswagen Citi Golf, which had been given to Cornelius by her 91-year-old grandmother, when they were approached by four men.

Marsh was thrown into the boot of the vehicle while Cornelius was forced into the back seat, police said.

The pair's belongings were stolen before the university students were taken to an undisclosed location and beaten with bricks. Marsh told police that he only survived by throwing himself over a wall to escape his captors.

Ebola: Nigerian Minister of Health, Adewole Recommends Sanctions

 The Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole has recommended sanctions for Kenya Airways for flying in an unaccompanied body of a Nigerian man who died in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC)

The body flown into the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, on Monday, 22, tested negative for the Ebola virus.

Prof. Adewole, who confirmed the development said that a test was carried out and had tested negative for the virus, but he refused to divulge the cause of the deceased’s death, citing medical confidentiality.

A social media account that is dedicated to the pop star, 23, claims that the "broken" singer has pledged to help the families of the 22 people who lost their lives during the terror attack at her concert on Monday.

The Twitter account, which is called Ariana Updates!, shared a post on Wednesday which read: "News on Ariana: Ariana has reached out to the families who's loves ones died last night....she is gonna pay for the funerals!"

FG Did Not Pay Any Ransom To Boko Haram For 82 Chibok Girls – Lai Mohammed

The Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed has denied reports that a ransom of two million euro was paid by the Federal Government of Nigeria to terrorist group, Boko Haram for the release of the 82 Chibok girls.

He said this in a response to a BBC claim that Boko Haram received the ransom as part of the deal to release the girls.
He said

“Apart from the five Boko Haram commanders, the exchange of which we have already made public, no other concession was made.
“Any other thing to the contrary is absolutely false.

“I emphatically deny on behalf of the Federal Government that any sum of ransom was paid in exchange of the 82 Chibok girls.”

Eko Disco announces 5-day Power Outage In Lagos

The Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) has announced a five-day disruption of electricity supply in many parts of Lagos state from Wednesday May 24th to Sunday May 28th.

In a statement released by the EKEDC spokesman, Godwin Idemudia, affected areas during this period will include Ikoyi, Victoria Island and parts of Lagos Island.


According to Idemudia, the outage was to enable maintenance crew from the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) address technical and maintenance issues at Alagbon transmission station.

"We want to inform our esteem customers that from Wednesday, May 24 to Sunday, May 28, there will be an outage within Ikoyi, Victoria Island and parts of Lagos Island. This is to enable TCN maintenance crew resolve some technical issues within Alagbon transmission stations’’ the statement read

Moon Jae-in Sworn In As South Korea's New president

South Korea has a new President, Moon Jae-in who was sworn in yesterday after his victory at the recently held elections.

In his inaugural address, he vowed to address the economy and relations with the North saying that he would even be willing to visit Pyongyang under the right circumstances. 

Mr Moon took his oath of office in Seoul's National Assembly building a day after his decisive win. The former human rights lawyer and son of North Korean refugees is known for his liberal views. 

He has also vowed to unify a divided country reeling from a corruption scandal which saw his predecessor, Park Geun-hye, impeached a few months back.
