Protesters Demand Truth On The Death Of Toba Falode In Dubai

 


Justice must prevail over the death of Toba Folade pictured left with his Mother who died mysteriously in Dubai, U.A.E on February 15, 2014 where he was a student,A group of Nigerian activists staged a protest at the National Assembly in Abuja on May 27, 2014, Tuesday, over the mystery surrounding the death of Toba Falode .The local police declared that the death resulted from a fall from the balcony. No details surrounding the tragedy, whether Tunde had been pushed out or committed a suicide, are available till date. The mother of the deceased Aisha Falode insisted that her son has been murdered.Aisha, who is a popular AIT broadcaster and a national coordinator of female football, thinks that an Arabic young man, Faisal, may be responsible for pushing the 19-year-old student from the balcony of his apartment in a 17-storey building.
 The protest was organised by people who sympathise with the Toba’s mother and was aimed at getting attention from House of Reps members. The lawmakers declared the necessity for a thorough investigation after the incident; however, nothing has been done for over 3 months.
The Chairperson of the House Committee on Diaspora, Abike Dabiri, assured during the meeting that her committee would do all in its power to ensure justice.
Civil rights attorney and Ms Falode’s lawyer, Festus Keyamo, and the leader of Women Arise group, Joe Okei-Odumakin, have also joined the protest.
The mother of the deceased student narrated that she had been mistreated by the police of the Emirate. She asked for a detailed report on Toba’s tragic death, but received a rejection instead. Dubai authorities informed that only the Nigerian government could address them with demands of thorough investigation.
One of the activists remembered that there were other fatal cases with Nigerian students studying in Dubai, but none of them were properly investigated.
