There are about six million Nigerians currently living in Cameroon, Dr Paul Ekorong a Dong, Consul-General, Consulate-General of the Republic of Cameroon, has said.
Ekorong a Dong told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Lagos that many Nigerians were living, doing their businesses and engaging themselves in different jobs in Cameroon.
He said that the increasing number of Nigerians in Cameroon was an indication of Cameroon’s growing relationship with Nigeria.
“Today, we have about six million Nigerians living happily in different parts of Cameroon.
“In fact, we have some of them either occupying a whole street or community. There are entire business streets being covered by Nigerians.
“This is a demonstration of how much my government love Nigerians, and the present cordial relationships existing between our two countries,’’ he said.
The Consul-General expressed his government’s commitment to making more Nigerians come freely to Cameroon.
Ekorong a Dong, however, noted that there were fewer Cameroonians in Nigeria when compared with the number of Nigerians living in Cameroon.
He said that many more Cameroonians were also interested in coming to live and work in Nigeria.
“Today, it is almost impossible for Cameroonians to settle in Nigeria due to resident permits challenge.
“We strongly believe that we should have a win-win relationship by allowing more Cameroon nationals also in Nigeria,’’ he said. (NAN)
