While any death is sad, that of a young person
is especially so. Although David had put up a heroic battle against sarcoma,
when he and his family realized that he was losing, they decided to help him
fulfill a last wish.
David had always loved owls, all kinds of owls, and he was given the chance to meet some firsthand several weeks before he died. Saw Whet owls are monitored on their migration by a program that uses catch and release to keep track of the owls’ vital statistics. The house where this study is being conducted provided David with plenty of owls. David’s dad helped steer the wheelchair over the rough ground and brought a smile to David’s face as he met the owls.
